John Michael moved to Lenexa in 2019 with his now-husband and knew right away that Lenexa was home. He quickly got involved, receiving an appointment to the Lenexa Planning Commission by Mayor Boehm in early 2020 and joining the Comprehensive Plan steering committee just a couple years later.

In January 2025, Mayor Julie Sayers appointed John to the vacant seat on Lenexa City Council, where he immediately jumped into the work and conversations to keep Lenexa somewhere special.

To the extent possible, John Michael is data-driven. He takes resident questions and concerns to heart, finding the information we need to make an informed choice on contracts, developments, and the overall direction for the city. He believes in accessibility, breadth of ideas, and continuing the reputation of excellence that Lenexa has.
